Disclaimer: Coconut Oil is my oil of choice. Different oils such as almond oil or castor oil can be used. Before trying this method please do your own research to determine if this will work for you.

We all have to admit that Coconut Oil is a heavenly potion sent from the God’s to earth to help cure it all. Coconut Oil can be used for just about anything from skin, nails, hair, teeth, cooking, fixing your car, help your broken relationship (ok maybe not relationships haa). Anyways, about 6 months ago I began using Coconut Oil as a face cleanser. Although I had heard about and even researched oil cleansing awhile ago, I was very hesitant to try it. My biggest fear was breaking out from the oil because growing up I was told oil would make me break out. So I always looked for that squeaky clean face after using a face cleanser. However, after putting my fear aside and giving it a try I must say the skin on my face has never been healthier. I rarely get any breakouts and my face looks more youthful and nourished.IMG_9885

Here is how it works:

It is basically the chemistry “like dissolves like”. Ultimately, what you are doing is dissolving and wiping away all of the dirty, nasty oil and trading it with clean, moisturizing, chemical free oil.  Using this method also avoids the stripping of your skins good natural oils. When you strip your skin of its natural oils it attempt to produce more as quickly as possible which then leads to clogged pores.

Benefits of Coconut Oil:

-Has a high moisture retaining capacity

-Soothes itchiness and dryness

-Possesses antibacterial and anti-fungal properties

-Natural treatment for Acne (kills bacteria causing the problem)

-Powerful Antioxidant (combats free radicals in the skin).

What you will need:

Coconut Oil ( organic unrefined is the best)

Clean washcloth

How to:

Pour about a quarter size amount of the oil in the palm of your hand. Rub your hands together to warm up the oil. Then, gently apply the oil all over your face. I like to gently massage the oil upwards. You can do this for about 30 seconds or longer if you wish. Coconut oil is also a great makeup remover so do not worry if you have on makeup. After you have massaged the oil on your face, run the washcloth under very warm water (make sure it is tolerable) and wring out any excess water. Place the warm washcloth over your face and leave it there for about 30 seconds. And that is all folks! Now, you can stop here but, I like to add my favorite all natural facial moisturizer to my face for added goodness and moisture. If you have very dry skin you should apply a moisturizer for a little extra help.

My favorite all natural face moisturizer is the Sheerlumé Brightening Cream.  Sheerlumé Brightening Cream has an advanced formula powered by a proprietary blend of Young Living’s pure essential oils.
